Masquerade registration desk open and close times
- Friday: 1:30PM – 4:30PM
- Saturday: 12:00PM – 3:00PM
- *Note that times are subject to change*
- Sign up will be at the masquerade registration desk ONLY. There is no fee to register. You must register to participate in the competition.
- If you are a professional, you are required to enter the Masters category. Professionals are considered those who make at least 50% of their income from costuming.
- Standard judging divisions system
The Standard Division System, in accordance with the International Costumers' Guild Guidelines, will be used as follows:
-Junior division
Please note that we take these rules seriously. If you provide fraudulent information on your entry form it will result in immediate removal the competition. You may still be permitted stage time but will not be eligible for presentation awards.
There are two different divisions in which you can compete; Workmanship and the Presentation.
Workmanship Judging
Workmanship judging takes place at the Playhouse before the masquerade. Not all entries must participate in the workmanship division of the masquerade. Only those who wish to have their costumes or props examined and judged need to register for workmanship judging.
If you choose to participate in the workmanship category, you will be given an appointment time when you register for the masquerade. If you have registered online, you will be e-mailed with your time slot.
If you are being judged for workmanship you must do both the one-on-one and walk the stage.
Presentation division
The masquerade is a non-professional competition. Costumes bought or rented cannot be entered in the workmanship divisions, but they can be showcased in the presentation division. Also, anybody who wants to enter in this division is welcome.
The Presentation division include skits, walk on’s, and anything else entertaining that happens on stage.
A walk on has 30 seconds of stage time and groups up to 4 have 60 seconds. For groups larger than 4 members a 90 second (maximum) stage time is permitted.
-Junior division
- Any contestant under the age of 13 the day of judging.
- Any contestant who has not won any award other than the Junior division.
- Any contestant who has won less than three (3) awards at any masquerade when in the Journeyman division.
- Any contestant who has won three (3) or more awards or any contestant who wishes to be in this division and is not in any higher division.
- Any contestant who has won more than three (3) awards in any masquerade in the Artisan division or any contestant who has won an award in the Master division in a national masquerade. Also, any contestant known as a professional in the costuming industry must enter in this division. For this competition, a professional is someone who makes at least 50% of their income from the costuming industry.

The Director reserves the right to eliminate anyone from competition on the basis of taste, danger to the audience/other contestants or for any other reason deemed sufficient.
- Safety always. We do not allow flames, flash papers, sparklers, poppers or streamers on or around the stage.
- No nudity. This is a family friendly event and presentations must remain PG 13.
- No pets are allowed backstage or onstage. With the exception of service animals.
- We do not allow the use of microphones.
- Contestants can only be on stage once during the masquerade.
- Contestants must show up for their appointments on time. If you are not present or ready on your turn you are risking disqualification. Be in the waiting room (Green Room) at the required time. If you are not present on time or you are not ready to go on stage when it is your turn, you will be disqualified.
- Commissioned costumed are allowed but the creator or builder of that costume MUST be present.
- Judges decisions are final.
It is strongly advised to bring documentation to the judges showing source material for your costume if it comes from an existing medium, especially if it is something the judges may not know. It needs any images where your costume is shown. You may choose to also bring progression images or anything else you wish to share with the judges. Please give only copies of these images, not originals.
